Baptism, Dedication & Confirmation

Are you interested in baptism, dedication or confirmation for yourself or a child?

What is baptism?

Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward reality. We believe that baptism is a significant symbol of:

  • the Gospel: by grace and through faith our sins are washed away (Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21)
  • belonging to Christ's spiritual body (the church): we have been 'baptised into Christ's death' and now raised to new life in Him (Romans 6:1-4, 1 Corinthians 12:13)

At Toongabbie Anglican Church, we would love to talk to you about baptism if you have decided to follow Jesus, but haven't yet been baptised.

We also baptise infants. Infant baptism is a celebration of God's grace in the hope that children grow up knowing Jesus their whole life. In the baptism service, parents and godparents pray that the Holy Spirit would be at work in the child and that they would develop their own faith as they grow.

What is dedication/thanksgiving?

We offer special thanksgiving services for those who wish to thank God and pray for their child within the Christian tradition.

What is confirmation?

If you are already baptised, confirmation is an opportunity to publicly affirm your faith in Jesus.
